SPCA Publish Response to Local Government Reorganisation in Staffordshire
The Staffordshire Parish Councils Association (SPCA) has today published its formal response to the Government’s consultation on Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) in Staffordshire.
As the representative body for parish and town councils across the county, the SPCA emphasises that local councils are essential to sustaining strong, active, and democratic communities. Our response outlines the sector’s priorities and concerns as Government considers the future structure of local government in Staffordshire.
Our submission highlights five key areas:
- Early and meaningful engagement with parish and town councils as any new governance arrangements are developed.
- A clear, funded framework to build the capacity of local councils and support them through any transition.
- Opportunities to strengthen local democracy, including through the creation of new local councils in currently unparished areas.
- The value of structured partnership working, including the devolution of appropriate assets and services to the most local level.
- The vital role of the SPCA** as a strategic partner in helping ensure that any reorganisation is well‑planned, inclusive, and effective.
